August 2014 working party results at the ponds

A lot of splashing about in the ponds and undergrowth clearance later we salvaged some more of the estate from the onslaught of laurels. The impact on the pond shows up poorly on these photos, but we removed a large quantity of rocks, sticks, and suffocating mud from the bottom one, and revealed the extent of the, almost lost, upper pond.
Our continued laurel clearance has revealed views as far as the Echo and created a new sense of place in the area. Our plans are to try and enhance the pond with the planting of native species that will hopefully oxygenate and revive it from having been left dead by overshadowing and toxins released by decaying laurel leaves. This will take a little while, but for now the water is deeper, and in much better shape to complete our plans.
